The 2009 Leadership Butts County Class has adopted the Community Gardens as their class project. CERF in collaboration with Linda (Master Gardener) and Ronny Yates, Jim Herbert, Director of Butts County Recreational Dept., Millard Daniels, University of Georgia Butts County Extension Service, and Jenny Brown, Director of Butts County 4-H has devised a plan to create a community garden. The garden will be 100’ X 100’ and will be located adjacent to the ball fields on Recreation Drive here in Butts County.
The Butts County Community Garden will be a community project where volunteers will work to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for those in need in Butts County. Food production will be the primary purpose of the gardens; however to make this a successful and bountiful garden the community needs to be involved from beginning to end each year. We want to build community pride by letting everyone learn how to garden and to know that their sweat and labor will be providing food for those in need. Church youth, civic groups, school organizations, retirees and others will be encouraged to participate. If this garden is maintained as planned we estimate the summer garden to produce over 2400 pounds of fruits and vegetables and the winter garden is estimated at 400 pounds – all to be given to families and individuals in need right here in our county!
The 2009 Leadership Butts County class would like to ask your support in raising the supplies and dollars that are needed to start this new venture in Butts County. No amount is to small, remember that all of the Butts County Community Dollars will add up to the total we will need. All checks should be made payable to Leadership Butts County and mailed to: The Butts County Chamber of Commerce, Admin. Bldg., 625 W. Third St., Ste. 6, Jackson, GA 30233 by March 30th.
When you agree to sponsor you and/or your company will be recognized publicly in various ways throughout Butts County as well as surrounding counties. .
